5 rubles 1907 – a coin that you will never find (Identification of finds, history+)

This is truly a find. A coin that you will never find because there were only 109 of them issued! As far as we know, naturally, there may be more, but with such a small circulation it will be very, very difficult to prove the originality of origin, because… Why? The story is just about this unusual and interesting coin – five rubles from 1907!

There was once such a Life Guards Cavalry Regiment, back during the Russian Empire. And in August 1907, the construction of the Church of St. Olga began in the regiment camp, located near St. Petersburg and, for some reason, for this event, the St. Petersburg Mint minted 109 gold five-ruble coins, 100 of which were laid in the foundation of the church for the future and as a keepsake for posterity. Rich memory, I say! This coin differed from ordinary five-ruble coins only in the date of issue – no more five-ruble coins were issued in 1907! And the remaining nine coins from the mintage have already appeared after the solemn ceremony of laying the foundation of the temple, as memorable souvenirs to the participants of the event. I'm sure special participants. 😉

The most interesting thing in the history of this coin is not only the story about the Church of the Life Guards Cavalry Regiment, which contains 100 such rarities, but the price of these rarities.

On March 26, 2011, such a coin was sold at auction at the Alexander Auction House # 16 (you’ve probably never heard of this?) for $150,000 . And I wasn't kidding.
