6″ sniper coil for Minelab Equinox – review and coil tests!

So, the long-awaited review of the 6″ sniper coil for Equinox series metal detectors.

Where can I buy?

I bought a reel in Latvia, in the Morex.lv store: link to the reel . Delivery to my country was only one day, so I received it quickly. Yes, Morex gives all readers of my blog a discount, if anything, write in the comments to the order: “I’m from the Hobby Detecting blog” and get a discount.

And if you are from Russia, then I recommend the store “At Grandfather Mitya’s”, they also have this reel: link to the reel . You can also indicate that you are from my blog and receive a bonus.

Sniper rifle, weight and review

The reel itself is very light, which is understandable – its size is very small. Weighs only 301 grams.

When installing on the metal detector, your hand does not pull, balance is maintained, and this helps you dig longer and longer with such a coil. Yes, with very light coils the balance is upset and all the weight (center of gravity) goes closer to the armrest, and here any digger can get pain in his hands after a few hours of digging, because the palm will have to be constantly strained. A reel of this size is no longer needed lighter; 301 grams is optimal for a reel. Add another bolt and the weight will be at 310 grams, which is not much more.

Naturally, a sniper is needed to work on littered cop spots. It is these places that are still full of finds, because most diggers try to avoid them, but in vain! Yes, there is nothing to do with a large coil – you will only pick up large signals, because the metal detector will respond better to large objects made of non-ferrous metal, and will cut off small things, so you will get plenty of different horseshoes and large objects. This is also useful, but it is better to dig in the trash for coins and various useful small items, such as jewelry, jewelry, rings.

It is this type of sniper reel that works best in such places and catches small things. Since none of the other reel manufacturers have yet released their models for the Equinox, we have to use the original reels, which work very well. Although a couple of additional coil models would really not hurt for the Equinox! 🙂

Now about the finds – don’t be surprised that finds in the trash can lie at different depths. For example, I found the coin above, a penny from 1841, at a depth of… surprise… one centimeter! Yes, I just removed the top layer of soil and the find appeared. The place was an old road that stopped being used only 70 years ago, so it became overgrown and disappeared.

There, very close, a post-war Soviet Army buckle was found. And although there were battles in those places (there was a landing about 400 meters away in 1944), the buckle is post-war in its design and type. Interestingly, it was also lying on the surface.

Don’t be surprised that the amount of rubbish and traffic jams in the trash will be off the charts – the trash needs to be sifted through and the whole thing worked out, it yields finds and there may be more good finds than in a month of an ordinary field dig.

My trash bin settings on Minelab Equinox 800

On the trash bin I work with the following settings:

Mode Park 1, sensitivity 20-22, we tune out from the ground (where possible) and from interference, volume at discretion, tonality – polyphony, no discrimination or clipping – we listen to all signals, recovery speed 5-6 and iron indicator 0-3, on choice.

The rest can be left as in the basic program. Regarding the iron indicator – a high level of this setting throws deep colored targets into blackness, this was noticed in tests at the training ground. In the trash, it may well be that there will be old coins at a depth of 25-30 cm, such a reel quite picks up targets at this depth, which means we should never set the iron indicator above 3 – there will be misses of good targets.

All the best and great weather!

PS If you have the same reel, then write your review of it in the comments.
