I select tools and devices that will help in the field. Today I’ll take a closer look at the plastic scoop.
I’m not promoting anyone and I’m not advertising anything. This is probably not the best or cheapest option, but I chose for myself a garden scoop from the Finnish company Fiskars, a plastic one, otherwise the pin and detector would ring.
Why is it even needed? Many will say that this is unnecessary. I will argue in order:
1. Safety of the find. It is very easy to damage a coin by moving a large iron shovel in a hole. And God forbid the coin turns out to be rare and in good condition — the mood is ruined for the whole day! Cop — This hobby is extremely exciting. So you walk around the field all day and suddenly the signal is coin-operated and strong, so it’s probably silver! How to remain calm in such a situation, because you want to quickly see what is ringing there. At this moment it is better to have a plastic scoop in your hand!
Have you seen how professional archaeologists work? The scoop is their main tool, which allows them to carefully remove an artifact from the ground.
2. Convenience and neatness. If you pulled out a piece of turf, took out the pin and determined that it was ringing from the side, then there is no need to take up the shovel again. Have a dustpan handy. One easy movement and the item is in your hands. This way you save your energy and leave less noticeable traces of excavations.
In our area we often find rocky soil. Dig it with a shovel — real punishment. Digging a large hole without additional tools is extremely problematic, but using a scoop turned out to be easier than ever to get the coin out. By picking out the pebbles one by one, you reach your goal in a matter of moments.
I have expressed my thoughts, I will be glad to know your opinion!
