Review

The Garrett ACE 150 is a simple, reliable, inexpensive ground device for those, who want to get involved in metal detecting. It is the first unit in a line of the АСЕ metal detectors series. With its help one can search not only on land, but also in coastal areas or streams, with submersion of the search coil in water just up to the control housing (the coil is waterproof only, the control housing of the detector isn’t).

The electronic circuitry of the Garrett ACE 150 is based on VLF technology. The device operates at a universal search frequency of 6.5 kHz. A simple control housing has an intuitive interface which displays graphic Target ID and settings of the detector. The metal discrimination on the visual scale is divided into 5 segments. There is a depth indicator with a grading scale of 3 values (in inches). With the help of three pushbuttons located on front panel of the control housing the detector is switched on and tuned for search. So, one of three preset detection modes is selected by pushing the MODE button; the POWER button is responsible for switching on/off the detector; however, sensitivity level of the АСЕ 150 is adjusted by pressing the SENSITIVITY button.

The sensitivity is adjusted in the range of 1-4. A 3-tone audio response is applied for indicating a find. The detector has a 6.35mm headphone jack.

The Garrett ACE 150 metal detector comes with the Garrett 6.5×9’’ ACE PROformance mono coil as standard equipment. For this detector there exist a great number of other coils of different sizes and parameters. The power supply of the metal detector is 4 AA usual batteries or rechargeable ones. The size of the device is 106-129cm (adjustable height). The weight of the Garrett ACE 150 (assembled) is 1.2kg.
