4 mark coin

I was a little lucky the other day. Summer evenings in the fields gave their results — 4 stamps of Charles XI of Sweden, 1692. The truth was that I was saddened by the wear and tear of the coin and the manhandling of the farmers, who in those ancient times decided to attach a loop to it to wear it around their necks. The coin has excellent silver purity — .694! It was not lying on top, but a good 30 cm, and was raised with the Nokta Fors Relic device. The signal was clear and strong!

Frankly speaking, it’s not every day that you find something like this, it’s much better than imperial poops. In general, Swedish coins are not uncommon among us — This is a whole layer of the history of our land. By the way, Charles XI is the father of the famous Charles XII, defeated by Peter the Great near Poltava in 1709. He ruled independently from 1672 to 1697, famous for his victory over the Danes in December 1676 at Lund in southern Sweden. This battle turned into a real meat grinder.

As for silver coins, there were different denominations: one, two, four or even eight marks.

I will describe in more detail the coin I found. On the obverse in the center there is a bust of King Charles XI (sorry very worn), directed to the right, around the legend «CAROLVS. XI. D. G. REX. SVE» with a flower rosette at the end. This inscription respectively means «King of Sweden Charles XI». On the reverse, in the center, there is a coat of arms in the form of a shield with three crowns, topped with another large crown. Around the words «DOMINVS. PROTECTOR. MEVS. 1692» — (translated from Latin) The Lord is my protector, which was the motto of the Swedish kings and, finally, the year of minting. The denomination of the coin is in the form of a four and the letter «M» spaced on opposite sides of the shield.
