Fisher F-70 MD review based on personal experience

Four comrades came to visit me to dig in the countryside, three from the same company and a friend from a classmate. At the entrance to my village we saw a freshly plowed field, it would be a sin not to stop and quickly walk around for reconnaissance. The comrades quickly uncovered the Deus and let's catch the horizon for balancing, a classmate collected 75 fisher and, looking at the Deus, said ironically.

– Wow, Deus. But I only have Fischer, I’ll walk around a little, maybe I’ll dig up something.

The comrades in response, maybe they didn’t understand the irony, maybe they took it at face value, but they thought that the classmate was being humble, so to speak, and maybe that was really the case, but I liked the answer.

– Yeah, just Fischer. Ha, now the historian will arrive with his Fischer…

There was no point in continuing the phrase further, because everyone knew perfectly well what we were talking about.

A little about myself: I live in a village, I work for myself, I do carpentry and other work for summer residents. Therefore, I can freely get into the car in the middle of the day, drive 5-10 km outside the village and walk through a plowed field, or a mown meadow, into the forest, or to dig through the remains of farmsteads. Then complete the order in the carpentry until one in the morning. Therefore, on average, I spend from 150 to 200 hours on mining per month. This information is important for the understanding gained from two years of experience and operating time of the instrument.

Fisher F-70 personal experience of use

I bought a Fisher F70 secondhand from an ad on the Internet, it was quite a good deal, the seller gave it away for half the price, and said that he only went out with it three times, it didn’t work out as a hobby, and therefore he was selling it. And I want to say that, judging by the absence of scratches on the reel, he was telling the truth. Often on forums, novice diggers are advised that it is best for beginners to ride with more experienced diggers for the first year. I didn’t have such a choice; I had to figure it out on my own. As a humanist, I read the instructions for the first time only a month later. Three months later, having saved up some money, I bought a Nel Tornado reel. And I’ve been digging with this configuration for two years, although I already have 4 coils in the kit and tried it separately with a Fisher DD standard from 75. So, I’ll tell you about everything in order.

When talking about the advantages or disadvantages of a particular MD model, users constantly talk about the depth of detection and discrimination. Detection depth is undoubtedly the most important factor for a cop in our Central Russian regions. Since at least 80% of digging trips involve plowed agricultural fields and forests. Today, the desire to find an unbeaten rumor, which is indicated on Mende or later cards, is equivalent to the desire to meet a pink unicorn. It even happens that after talking with representatives of the indigenous and local population of a distant village and learning from them insider information that there was a village there that is not on any map. The diggers, having arrived at the site, see a lunar landscape, and even dug with a tractor. Fields, forests, old roads, open spaces. This is the main place where comrades in the field of cops apply their power today.

And here the depth of detection is our everything. On average, during deep plowing, a tractor plow lifts a layer of soil up to 50 cm. Finds are constantly mixed in this layer, and the desire to search for these half-meter crops at the entire depth is quite understandable. But with another important quality of MD – discrimination or signal separation, everything is not so simple. Very often, owners of professional MDs answer the question “Why is it better? Than that one over there, but 20 tons cheaper? You can hear the hackneyed answer “I dig up less garbage.” And here I must say, they are openly disingenuous.

Users of these devices dig less garbage in the northern United States, where there is practically no medieval metal-plastic. In our country, the owner of a device with excellent discrimination functions does not dig up garbage until the first occasion. This is when, out of boredom, or purely out of curiosity, a person decides, “Well, I’ll dig this cork,” and there, a 14th-century tin bronze falls into the hands from a piece of soil. And the hands begin to shake excitedly and click photos to the comrades in the chat. And after that, even the most TOP, sophisticated, advertised device, at a price that is borderline reasonable, turns into 250 ICQ. Because the user begins to stupidly dig for all the color signals, despite the monitor numbers.

I repeat once again, this example is only for using devices in open, non-littered areas. Personally, my understanding that I needed to dig for all the colored signals came after I extracted the badge of the Warsaw Regiment. 100% junk signal, three metals, bronze, brass and iron. You can imagine what kind of signal fork there was. It’s also worth mentioning that professional forestry diggers generally dig for all metals. So, in terms of discrimination, my 70th Fisher is absolutely equal to all TOP models. And when digging, I use a standard 10-inch mono coil, and the device has completely different properties. But more on this in the review of reels for Fishers.

The second indicator is the detection depth. And here I admit honestly that even when equipped with a Tornado, the Fisher F70 loses in the depths to the Deus, and this was tested not by digging holes in the wall of a sand dump, but actually on the field. This is when the comrade calls, check the signal, I check, even at maximum settings it’s empty, they have a clear ping. In general, you need to understand that where the Kopars have combed the Deus, there is nothing to do even the next year after plowing the field. When moving slowly, these radishes comb out everything. Well, or almost everything, reducing interest in this place. In general, with the Tornado coil I was able to recover finds from a very decent depth. Anna’s money is 1.2 bayonets, Pavel’s kopeck piece is 1.2 bayonets, Katya’s nickel is 1.5 bayonets. The physics of receiving deep signals is very interesting. The butterfly-shaped coil is divided into several sectors, so deep signals are received only by the central part of the coil. But we’ll talk about this in a separate review on reels for Fishers.

The third indicator is Response Speed. In general, at the dawn of the appearance of the first 75 Fishers, manufacturers set this indicator as their main competitive advantage. Initially, the increased response speed of the target signal was intended for working in littered areas, but in field conditions this makes it possible to swing the coil faster. In general, the 70th phisher, like ICQ 250-350, has an excellent feature. The faster you wave the coil, the higher the depth of signal detection. What is the advantage of this? It’s trivial, but a large area of worked field in the same time. Let's add the increased width of the coil and we get approximately twice as much surface area in the same time compared to the same Deus. And then Her Majesty the theory of probability works. At one time approximately +100% width of the area -15% volume in depth. Here's your advantage. And again, this doesn’t work in trash-strewn areas of 20th-century settlements. Well, except when it’s just luck. This is when the owner of Deus found 15 imperial coins, and I found four, but they were all from the same hole and there was a ruble among them))) The response speed of the Fisher F70 is achieved by the fact that it simply lacks all the additional and absolutely unnecessary functions. The simple program does not load the processor, the process of discrimination and signal identification is simple, therefore, when quickly moving the coil, the targets do not fly by, do not go out and are clearly recorded.

The fourth indicator. Energy saving. Comrades, all four Deus owners come to see me on weekends, so when they start discussing something about the technical parameters of the device, they become sectarians for me. For example. We went to the field, got out, got ready and I remembered that the batteries needed to be replaced. I take out the old ones, install new ones, and see complete bewilderment in the eyes of my comrades. “Do you have a battery-powered device?” “Yes, why?” “But you can go broke on them.” And then I look at them with incomprehension. “Yes, I have two or three sets per month,” one set for 40 hours of work, and with ears it’s even more than 50. By the way, the Fisher F75 consumes batteries twice as much, but at the same time I did not notice any effectiveness from this.

Fifth indicator. Simplicity of the control unit. If you do not take into account the standard functions for discrimination and signal tone selection, the Fisher F70 has only two scales, the combination of which leads to adjustment of the signal detection depth. This is the strength of the supplied signal and the sensitivity of the receiver. My default setting is 75/-1. In general, the simplicity of the device itself makes it simply ideal for any beginner. It so happened that I had one friend’s 75th fisher left for a while, so I could take another friend into the field for digging. I gave him my 70th and went with the 75th. And a person with experience at the level of the third departure. A very worthy and interesting dig with some impressive finds.

Sixth indicator. Yes, he's just lucky. This is what all my fellow comrades think after going on trips together. Well, I don’t refuse this version. In our hobby, luck, randomness, chance and, well, stupid luck are the most important settings for the device. Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, this setting is not basic in the factory firmware.

Fisher F-70 MD review based on personal experience

What can we say in conclusion, summarizing the above? Undoubtedly, the Fisher F70 is simply a great device for the novice instrument search enthusiast. An excellent balance of price and quality will allow the user to understand whether it is a hobby or not, without looking pale against the background of venerable comrades with expensive MDs. And a large assortment of additional coils in the lines of all manufacturers will gradually improve the quality characteristics of the device, which puts the Fisher F70 above its Chinese analogues from a well-known website. I hope that my note helped you, dear readers, make the right choice. I wish you good luck and stay tuned to this site for updates.
