Why, I myself remember when I first bought my first metal detector, I watched videos of top diggers with bated breath. Well, there’s a bang, and there’s a coin in the frame, fresh and still damp from the ground, and in the corner of the screen there’s a number with its value. And everything was so smooth, so beautiful and so tempting.
From personal experience, I can say that five years ago it was possible to earn some money by selling dug finds. Well, so that the gas, food and consumables will be zero, and in the evening you’ll get a beer for the result.
Years have passed and one can only remember the old prices with sadness when looking through old photos of sold finds. And here, right away, we need to dispel the most popular myth that coin prices have fallen so much because there are so many diggers. Absolutely crazy version. There are two main reasons for the sharp drop in the value of all excavated antiquities and, by the way, unexcavated ones. The first is that the market is flooded with high-quality fakes. And the second is that many wealthy citizens stopped collecting because of the large number of fakes that filled the market. There is also a story about how the romance of collecting went away with the advent of the Internet, but that’s a completely different story.
So it turns out that instrument search, as a hobby, remains either enthusiasts, for whom, what then, what now, money and profit do not play a role. These people keep all their finds for themselves. Or, among the diggers, there were those who could not find a worthy replacement for the hobby they had loved over many years.
