In 2013, the Russian company AKA rolled out its new metal detector Berkut 5 (7253). This device replaced the already outdated Condor (7252). After minor modifications over the course of a year, the Berkut became a truly powerful device. Indeed, during this time, a wireless module was introduced into it (supplied at the request of the client), the possibility of self-firmware and many other small functions were implemented, which only improved the quality of the search.

Constructive

Structurally, AKA Berkut 5 is assembled on a classic S-shaped rod, consisting of three sections. Everything here is the same as, for example, the Garrett ACE, with the only difference being that the armrest part is slightly longer.

This makes swinging the Berkut barbell much more convenient. The comfort of searching with the detector is also affected by the fact that there are plastic clips at the connection points. Thanks to them, the rod does not play – everything is clear and solid.

The metal detector unit is mounted on a dovetail joint, which makes its installation quick and convenient. This technical solution is unique to AKA metal detectors.

Unique technical capabilities.

The AKA Berkut 5 metal detector implements a number of proprietary technical developments that make the metal detector stand out from the crowd of similar ones.

Coil.

Berkut can operate at frequencies from 1.5 to 22 kHz. The search frequency is selected using a coil (like the Minelab X-Terra series). Standardly, the detector is equipped with a 7 kHz sensor, but if desired, the device can be equipped with coils with a different operating frequency (3, 10, 13, 14, etc.).

Hodograph.

To identify objects on the Berkut screen, in addition to the VDI number, a line or loop is drawn – this is a hodographic image. It helps the operator decide whether to dig or not dig a detected metal object.

For most metal detectors that have a digital conductivity rating (vdi), the digital value ranges from 0 to 99. For Berkut 5, the index ranges from -90 to +90, which gives a total of 180 values ​​of the detected object. This digital crushing makes it possible to distinguish a coin from a vodka cap in the ground, which cannot be done on detectors with a smaller vdi range.

Discrimination.

As a rule, the discrimination mode of metal detectors is implemented in such a way that certain segments of it are excluded from detection. Berkut 5 also has such a function, but in parallel it has been added the ability not to exclude discriminator segments, but simply to remove their sound. Thus, the metal detector processor is not busy processing the discrimination map, but simply does not voice certain segments of it.

Settings.

The basic 7253 has 4 pre-installed editable programs. Even a beginner who picks up a metal detector for the first time will be able to conduct a full-fledged search using one of the programs.

Berkut’s settings are quite flexible, so they allow you to build a detector for specific conditions with the best possible result. Below, we want to demonstrate the settings that, in our opinion, will be both universal and most effective.

When setting up a metal detector (any), you must remember that the larger the search sensor, the less stable the detector. So, if on a small reel you can pull out a DC of 19-20, then on a large one there will be a lot of 17.
