Metal detector Makro Racer 2 – photo report and review

Salute to the diggers!

I already wrote about the box, packaging and photos of everything that is there in a previous post on the topic of the new device from Macro — Macro Racer 2, the post can be found here, now I will only share my experience of using the device, based on several outputs with the detector.

Camouflaged in the grass. 🙂 In fact, the device gave me a little mixed feelings at first. The first exit was incomprehensible — why does he groan and make such funny and unusual sounds? I looked at the menu, played with the settings, but initially I read the manual and mastered it, and therefore I had no questions about the settings. For a long time I relied on the «deep» mode, I thought I definitely needed to check it out. I will write more about this in the next post. 😉

The design of the device itself is very familiar, the unit is located on a standard S-shaped rod. Nothing innovative has yet been invented in this design.

The second unit, which houses the battery compartment, speaker, ON/OFF lever (it also controls the volume!) and headphone jack, is located directly under the armrest. I liked the armrest — it is large and comfortable, well adjustable in height, I am sure that even a warm and thick winter jacket will easily sit on such an armrest. It’s better to use a case, it will be more intact and cleaner.

The seal on the handle is quite soft, but with my large hand it is a little uncomfortable, I would like to increase its volume and put additional material on top. As you can see in the photo — The menu control buttons are on the left side, at first I thought that I would have problems with this arrangement of buttons, I am left-handed and often the device moves from hand to hand during digging, but even with my left hand I easily controlled the menu with my thumb. I don’t know, maybe my fingers are developed, my guitar past speaks for itself.

The device is not declared to be 100% waterproof, which means it is better to keep the case on it and periodically take it out only for cleaning/drying. The photo shows the designations of the VDI scale, I already wrote about it in release of the new Makro Racer 2— iron segments from 0 to 10, the rest are color signals from 10 to 99, which after a couple of outputs to the cop already seem very informative, but more on that below.

A little about assembling the device. It’s easier to assemble than my Garrett AT PRO. There are good clamps on the rod, there is no fear of breaking or damaging the device during assembly. If you just try hard, of course.

What I was delighted with was the trigger. Pull the trigger — pinpoint mode is triggered, the trigger is pulled away — adjusting the ground balance. And there was a place where you can put your index finger (who shoots — will understand) — right along this bar that holds the trigger to itself. It turns out that we point the coil exactly to the place where we point with our finger, very convenient! After several outings with Makro Racer 2, I already began to look for the trigger on other detectors, if I suddenly went out with something other than the Makro Racer. The topic with the trigger is very much becoming a habit, I hope it’s still a good one.

Macro positions this reel as waterproof, so we will not check the tightness of the reel, I am sure that there is a certain reserve. And it’s easier to ensure the seal of the coil than to make the block itself waterproof. The wire fastening is in a slightly unusual place, being right behind the rod. I always tried to follow the location of the coil along this wire fastening, and it’s especially good if the wire fastening turned out to be a different color than the coil.

How this device performed ? I was very surprised when it showed Imperial Copper as VDI 94-96. This is essentially a silver signal. But kopecks from the end of the 18th century. and the first half of the 19th century. Confidently shows exactly like silver. Okay, maybe this is a flaw, but on the other hand, the signal is so confident that you dig it without hesitation. And there is always a coin there. Medieval silver catches confidently from a pleasant depth, this device has a plus, it catches small coins well. I especially wouldn’t overestimate the device; in its class it costs higher than the Garrett AT PRO, Minelab X-Terra 705, but is slightly cheaper than the complete XP Deus. Based on the VDI scale, I use it only for searching for coins, the iron segment is small and most of it is always cut off from me. As a beach goer, the device is very good, but its price is not for the average person who likes to run along the beaches in search of lost rings.

A small summary of the first output with the device.

I’m thinking about putting the Garrett AT PRO up for sale, because after going on the hunt with Makro Racer 2, the Garrett AT PRO seemed like too boring a device for knocking out coins. But time will tell, and the sale of Garrett will give a reason to buy another device with a different frequency and add to the collection of reviews on the blog!

Good cop, friends! And I collect all the information on Makro Racer 2 here, read, share thoughts, comment.
