Newbies are lucky. (Competitive story of a digger!)

It was in 2010. This year I discovered instrument search. I have two friends — Alexander Z and Nikolay S, two old diggers, have been through thick and thin, but even though we are friends, this hobby of theirs passed me by; at that time I had other hobbies, such as spearfishing and hockey. It so happened that during one of the hockey training sessions I was injured and was out of action for a month. Free time appeared, which my friends and I began to spend in garages, but it turns out that I had nothing to talk about with them, since all their conversations boiled down to search cases, I listened to their stories and slowly fell in love with this business. I forgot to mention that it was the end of winter, the sun was starting to get hot, the snow was melting, the buds were swelling, tools were being taken out, shovels were being sharpened. Everyone was excited for the start of the season. And now this day has come.

On Saturday early in the morning we gathered in the garage, I was given a battered AKA Cornet (Russian device mainly used for military excavations), since I did not have my own device, I was glad to have it, loaded into the UAZ Hunter Alexandra Z and We went to the previously planned point. They decided to teach me on the site of a disappeared village; in fact, this place was knocked out a long time ago, but since our outing was of an educational nature, we decided to stop there. They took out the instruments, several old coins, put the coins on the ground and began to check how the instruments reacted to them in order to understand which signals to respond to and which not. At the beginning of my acquaintance with the device, it turned out to be quite difficult for a beginner, but gradually I began to get used to it and have already dug a couple of wonderful plugs. Friends gradually began to separate from me, digging for something and  moving further and further away from me. The field where we were was approximately 6-7 hectares, surrounded by forest, I walked along the field approaching the forest, I had my finds in my pocket — two corks, one strange horse meat and an old key. From afar, I noticed a log at the edge of the forest and decided to take a break and drink tea. Near this log, the device showed an overload, meaning that there was a large metal object (ferrous metal) in the ground, usually you pass such a signal, but I am a NEWBY, so I decided to dig, but after drinking tea. While I was drinking tea I called my friends and they found some small finds, but nothing interesting. I took up the shovel and didn’t even turn on the device, because it was ringing everywhere. He dripped and froze in amazement as coins fell from under the shovel. Bending down and picking up one of the coins, I began to look at it, the coin was massive and almost untouched by time, I saw the numbers 1787 five kopecks, a double-headed eagle and a monogram that was incomprehensible to me, as it later turned out — Catherine II. Shock. I stood rooted to the spot, deciding what to do — invite friends or give them a surprise, I settled on a surprise. I started collecting and putting coins in my backpack, the coins were spread over an area of approximately 3 sq.m. And so my find is this — 80 nickels of Catherine 2, 3 coins of Pavel and 10 five-kopeck ring coins of Alexander 1. All the wealth was packed into the backpack, it became noticeably heavier (later I found out that one nickel weighs 50 grams). Soon we gathered around the car and began showing our finds. I held on until the last moment so as not to laugh from the happiness that overwhelmed me. When they asked me with a condescending smile «what did I find?» I casually nodded towards the backpack and said — «look».

You should have seen the faces of my friends, everyone was in shock, to find THIS in a completely destroyed village, and my friends sat and rested on this log more than once and caught this signal more than once, but always mistook it for ferrous metal and only due to my inexperience did I start digging. We went to this place and dug up three more nickels that I missed.

That evening, sitting in the garage over a glass of tea, I realized that this was LOVE, now I have another hobby and already a very decent collection of coins. Dear friends, this is a wonderful hobby, I began to get interested in the history of my native land, the history of coins, wonderful physical education and pastime. Engage in instrumental search, love your native land and it will reciprocate you. GOOD LUCK!!!
