Nokta Makro 9″ mono reel – our review!

DD coils have been dominating the metal detector market for almost a decade now, and it would seem that we could give up on concentric or mono coils, but that’s not the case! Have you ever dug with a mono coil? I remembered those glorious times when mono was popular and no one wanted to think about anything else… But the story is not about that, but about how I bought myself a 9″ mono coil for my Nokta Makro Anfibio Multi metal detector.

There was a moral choice – to take a larger mono coil or a smaller one? The idea was that in some places where the ground is more difficult, and even for a cop on the beach, when the DD coils are already fed up or have problems with adjusting the ground balance, it was necessary to test the idea with a mono coil. I settled on 9″ (there is also a 7″ mono coil) so that the capture area on the beach would be a little larger. The coil is light, there is a good balance of weight and fastening, the wire sticks out where it needs to and does not interfere with the bending of the rod. It was decided to check the reel on the nearest lake beach, where I went as soon as the snow melted in places.

The place is littered, but coins come from the beach that is knocked out every morning. Why not the sea beach? It’s simple – on the sea beach there are piles of ice a meter or more high, these will not melt soon, but the beach on the lake thawed quickly, the sand was soft and easy to dig into.

The big minus of the beach is the soil. Bulk sand was brought back during the USSR. They simply poured it on top of ordinary soil and the device was built on one of the soils. I have not yet found coins deeper than the sand layer, although there should be some in the very depths!

As you can see, some places are still covered with snow and it is not possible to dig there, the ground under the snow is stone because it does not heat up. What’s interesting is that the coil is light and you can’t feel the detector in your hands at all. Swinging is easy and convenient, and the reel itself perfectly identifies corks and distinguishes them well from coins. There is a fairly simple way to distinguish a cork from a coin on the Nokta Makro Anfibio – when you quickly move the coil over the target, the cork will begin to grunt, even if it is made entirely of non-ferrous metal. But the coin, on the contrary, will only sound good, you can’t go wrong with this! Use it – this method works perfectly on all Nokta-Macro devices.

What can please an ordinary European beach? Euro coins, of course! You can quickly get enough Euros for a regular snack in an hour, or even less, depending on your coping skills. But if there are no goals, then there will be nothing to dig. I noticed that on the beach most of the coins are in the places where there used to be changing booths and benches. This is not surprising – such places are not cleared out in the summer, which is why more finds are stored there during the season, so hunt for booths and benches as soon as they are taken away – do not waste time and immediately run to the beach as fast as you can!

Nokta Macro Anfibio Multi gives different results in different search programs. The three-tone program was not very suitable for the beach, but two tones were quite appropriate. With such a coil, there were no problems getting off the ground and I never used the target detection function (pinpoint), these are the advantages of a mono coil.

Use it! 🙂 A mono coil is a good addition to your metal detector. I would say that now, when everyone is digging with DD coils, digging with mono is an opportunity to have a slight advantage, for example, in the correct ground balance and the speed of determining the location of the target. And the reel did not disappoint in terms of depth either, small euro coins (2, 5, 10 cents) came from a good depth (from 5 to 15 cm), which is quite a good result for the beach!
