I always recheck the hole after picking up a find. Such a habit provides meaningful results as there can often be several items lying in one hole. See an example of how such habit helped a treasure hunter not to miss a hoard.

The signal was great, but it turned out to be an old rusty plate. Having picked it up, the hunter rechecked the hole once more… there was still something there. He pushed the shovel blade into the soil and heard a crunch – it was a pot full of coins.
