Golden Mask WS-105 and WS-106 headphones: differences, review, specifications and connection to a metal detector (You didn’t know this?)

When I bought my first Golden Mask metal detector model 5+, it also included wireless headphones model WS-105. Standard ordinary headphones in a case-box, which turned out to be very useful for the cop, because it contained not only a charger for the headphones, but also spare batteries (just in case). Now, when I became interested in trying an analog metal detector (model Golden Mask 4 PRO S from MDetectors), the kit already included new headphones, WS-106. What is the difference and what has changed?

WS-105 headphones (left) and WS-106

WS-105 were ideal for summer coping. They are small, light, fit the ears well, but do not allow them to fog up, because the ears of an adult are easily «ventilated» with this size «burdocks». The headband of the headphones is very strong and did not break, even when I put it on over a hat.

The control buttons were working only on the left burdock (now in the photo on the right), in the middle there is a power button, and on the sides there are volume controls — quieter and louder.

Those same small mugs and the mini-USB connector for charging the battery is visible. The headphones were enough for a cop’s whole daylight hours, although the manufacturer stated that it was 6 hours. Overall, it depends on the volume you set. I walk loud enough to hear weak signals, and it helps with the wind too!

The same box in which the headphones fit, and in the spare pocket — a charger or a set of batteries, I never took a charger with me to the cops, it has no place there.

The box itself is very compact and fits in the pocket of a field jacket (Bundeswehr, British Smoke, and so on). But it’s better to store it in the pocket of your field backpack, because this bag is only useful for transporting and storing headphones.

Now let’s look at WS-106, new wireless headphones from Golden Mask:

They are larger in size than the previous model. This is clearly visible in the photo above!

The mugs have become larger and now tightly and almost completely fit the ears, preventing the wind from getting inside. Thus, we got good headphones for cops in the cool season.

And the design has become nicer, in my opinion. The headband is wider and has a seal for a more comfortable «sitting» on the head.

Power button and below the volume button. Everything is managed simply — move the button up, it will get louder, down — it will be quieter. You can make convenient and quick clicks once or twice and the volume is set to a level that is comfortable for you. I appreciated this convenience. 🙂

The charging connector is visible, now it has become a micro-USB format and the headphones can be charged from your regular Android smartphone charger (but not USB type C!).

The battery capacity has also increased, so the new headphones will be able to work for two daylight hours without recharging. Good news for those who, like me, sometimes go on expeditions for several days, or even a week — The headphones can be quickly recharged from a Power Bank or from a car cigarette lighter. An extended service life is always excellent and a big plus for the manufacturer’s karma.

As far as I understand, since 2018, all models of Golden Mask metal detectors are already equipped with a new model of headphones.

Headphone specification

The technical data of the headphones of both models remained unchanged:

Standard – IEEE 802.11
Mode – stereo
Voltage – 3.7V DC
Electric current – 50 mA
Frequency range – 20-20,000 Hz

Transmitter parameters in metal detectors:
Frequency – 2.4 GHz
Standard – IEEE 802.11
Effective range 15m
Voltage – 5V DC
Power — 46mA
Transmission power – 5 dBm (3.16 mW)
Sampling frequency – 32 kHz (16 bits)

How to connect Golden Mask headphones to metal detectors?

I’m 100% sure that you didn’t know this! It turns out that all Golden Mask headphones can be connected to metal detectors that have a transmitter. Naturally, we are talking about Golden Musk metal detector models, for example — Golden Mask 5+, 4, Thracian (Svarog) and others.

To do this, just turn on the metal detector. Set the position of the regulator on the battery compartment to WS (wireless) mode, turn on your headphones, then quickly press the power button twice — At the same time, the indicator light will start flashing quickly, bring the headphones close to the battery compartment (the transmitter is located there) and you will hear the sound from your metal detector in the headphones!

To be honest, I didn’t know this myself until recently. But that’s how it is. Now I can use WS-106 headphones on my Golden Mask 5+.

No worries, friends!
