How did my comrade and I remove three tons of scrap metal from a place that had been knocked out, re-knocked out, and repeatedly knocked out?

Good mood to you, dear readers of our blog.

The metal miner is walking around the country and I have not stayed away from such an interesting and profitable occupation. I have little experience in this matter, however, I try to analyze and draw logical conclusions from what we succeed and, even more so, from what we do not succeed very well.

How to understand this? Yes, simple. We handed over half a ton for acceptance in a day, which means everything turned out great. If you only lost on gasoline, then you need to think and work on your mistakes.

So. Oil painting. There is one interesting place to dig for scrap metal. It is, but it wasn’t. Once upon a time there was a tractor brigade and a repair shop there. For those who have been digging for scrap metal for at least a couple of months, it is clear without further explanation what kind of place this is and how much can be dug there.

As we can understand, such a place has not been spared by all previous waves of scrap metal hunters. In the 90s, all workshops were cut with gas equipment. They were taken out by KamAZ trucks and handed over. Then we walked through the wasteland with a tractor and a powerful plow. Everything that came out of the ground was collected and taken away for delivery. Last year, two comrades dug for scrap metal very successfully. We met one of them at this place a couple of times this year.

How did the comrade and I end up here ourselves? Purely out of curiosity. In mid-May, the grass in the field burned down, and at the same time a shaft of fire passed along the edge of the village, catching three abandoned houses. The field was burnt out from the grass, so we decided to see if there was anything left there?

There were no unnecessary illusions, which was confirmed on the ground. Almost meter-long craters left over from predecessors. Looking at them, one could only guess how much ton had been taken out here before our arrival. However, as the comrade and I realized almost immediately, there was still a lot of metal left in place. During the first day of digging, we removed more than a ton of scrap metal. At the same time, they dug for no more than eight hours.

Our income was based on cast parts, gears and broken tracks. All that weighed no more than 10 kilograms. There were, of course, exceptions in the form of transfer cases or cast shafts weighing under 30 kilograms. But, nevertheless, the basis of the weight of scrap metal was spare parts of small weight.

At first I was happy with this result. And what? Almost a freebie. From the scrap metal collection point to this place it is only 10 km along asphalt. Dig, carry, come back and dig again. But then I began to think about it. And why? Why did the predecessors, those who dug here earlier, not begin to collect this scrap metal? Everything became clear when we met one of those who had been digging here earlier at a mine.

The competitor had a cheap Chinese metal detector, externally copied as a “grater” and on the handle I read the word “hunter” And, it was not a “bounty”. It was exactly a cheap Chinese MD. And then I began to observe the behavior of my competitor. And he, in every possible way, avoided the place where we were digging metal. Why? Because there was a terrible “trash” there. Hundreds and even thousands of small iron signals drove people crazy with their continuous cacophony.

However, the comrade with Aska and I with Fisher f-70 perfectly navigated this polyphonic nightmare. That’s why they dug in places where competitors were afraid to go. And so it turned out that we have already removed more than three tons of scrap metal from this place.

True, on our last trips, we come here if the exploration of new places was unsuccessful. The day should not be wasted. So today we went with a comrade into the forest and looked for peat mining in the area. Nothing was found. From there, on the way back, we dug again at the site of the tractor mill. 250 kilograms were loaded and delivered.

And, also, today I dug through this “trash” with XP ORX, the result is simply stunning. But, more on this in one of the following notes.
