Summer!!! Where should a passionate digger go??? The irony of personal experience

Good mood to you, dear readers of our blog.

The blissful time of spring digging has passed. To be honest, I had very high hopes for this season, but everything remains so, maybe I’ll postpone it to next year. However, it’s already summer, the fields are sown, the grass is waist-deep, and where should the enthusiastic lover of instrument search go now??? Over the five years of my hobby, I have thoroughly, or maybe not so thoroughly, managed to test on myself all the varieties of summer cops. That’s why I want to tell you in an ironic form what opinion I have on each of them.

Shurf. This is a topic that I have tried long and hard to understand. Unfortunately I couldn't. Everything turned out somehow differently for me than in the videos of top bloggers. For some reason, I had no more than one find per two or three cubic meters of shoveled soil. A cross, maybe a coin or a scale. I dug through different periods and in different locations. From a settlement during the Time of Troubles to a village built by the Communards.

I dug a lot and persistently, and the most effective can be considered a trip to the farm where my fists were once hidden. As a result, there I dug up two dozen early pieces of advice and a dozen horseshoes, which I later cleaned and used as souvenirs.

The winter pit experience deserves special attention. Why, it’s a good topic to avoid getting bored in the winter, and at the same time stretch your bones in the fresh frosty air. Therefore, the result there was the departure itself, and not what is usually considered the result. So a button weight on an 18th-century farmstead or a simple but, a whole bottle of Pinocchio lemonade can also be considered the result.

Forest. May lovers and supporters of forest digging forgive me, but I believe and am convinced that it is best to walk through the forest with a metal detector in the fall. And even better, in late autumn, when frosts are already covering the fields. Going to the forest in the summer is a blow to your health and nervous system. Mosquitoes, midges, heat in the forties, grass, foliage, and the inevitable – mushrooms.

How many times has this happened? I went into the forest to look for villages. I just walk in and there are mushrooms. Not just anything, but porcini mushrooms. So good, young, strong and also not wormy. I hold on, pass by, my goal is to find a village. And then, I hear mushroom pickers calling to each other in the forest. Well, how can you remain indifferent? We run to the car, put the device and backpack in the trunk, a knife and a couple of bags in our hands.

Late autumn is another matter. At the first frost. The forest lives its own life. The roads are frozen, and therefore you can drive to the most distant corners without fear of sitting for half a day in some small but treacherous puddle. And, most importantly, it is very convenient to navigate in a forest without foliage.

Beach cop. On our beaches, the most expensive things you can find are sinkers with feeders, homemade spoons, and a bottle of expired beer buried in the sand and forgotten.

Cop through plowed fields. This is what usually helps me out in the summer. Only now, not this year. Farmers in our area, in pursuit of federal subsidies, over the past two years have plowed everything that could be plowed and planted everything that could be sown. For those who are not aware, in Russia for the last few years there has been a state program to support the development of abandoned lands. Therefore, this year our farms and agricultural holdings took into cultivation approximately twice as much land as usual. This is where the personnel crisis occurred.

In general, there are several fields left for a couple of fields, really interesting fields, but some of them have not been plowed at all yet, the other part has been plowed up with “suitcases”. You have to have the tenacity of a donkey to walk on such a field for at least half an hour.

Conclusion. We need to dig for scrap metal. Or, like my city comrades: renovate the dacha, devote more time to the family, or remember that somewhere in the closet there are long-forgotten fishing rods and a boat.
