We heard about the release of the new metal detector Golden Mask 5+? An improved model that brings all the best from Golden Mask 5, but with some key changes. Naturally, I was interested to see what kind of device it was, because the Bulgarian manufacturer promised an increase in depth by as much as 50% for small and medium-sized targets, which is quite a serious statement!
As a result, I ordered Golden Mask 5+ in Bulgaria, in the «Klondike» store. If you are from the EU and you need to buy a Mask, then it is better to buy there — prices are nice and convenient. Link to store «Klondike» in Bulgaria. This pleasure cost a little more than 500 euro money.
However, as far as I know, Golden Masks are now sold freely in Russia, for example, in the store «U Ded Mitya».
Which set I took?

I took a full set of masks (there is also LITE — this is without headphones, charging and batteries) — detector Golden Mask 5+, with coil 9″ Spider, with wireless headphones, 10 2900 mAh batteries and charging for them. Nice bonus — The batteries in the Mask can be charged simply by connecting the charger to the battery compartment of the detector. No need to remove batteries and charge them separately.
2900 mAh batteries. 10 pieces, that’s a lot! Nice kit! Separately, they are quite expensive, but together with the device and the complete set, the savings result.

In the middle you can see the connector for charging batteries, on the right under a rubber cap there is a headphone jack hidden (in case you connect your own), and on the left there is a small toggle switch for switching modes: SP (Speaker) — speaker, the detector will transmit sound to the speaker and everyone around will hear you, and WS (Wireless) — wireless mode, headphone mode.
A big bonus that I immediately noticed on the Golden Mask 5+ metal detector, this is a rod. It differs from most rods used in conjunction with other detectors; it is made entirely of carbon, which means that it is very light and durable, the clamps are screwed in and out very easily, which is also very convenient, and when assembled the detector becomes very compact and will easily fit into a medium-sized backpack. It definitely won’t fit into 40 liters. I would say that in terms of compactness it can compete with Deus.
Menu and settings
The first thing that catches your eye is actually detector block — this is the number of buttons. I’m used to minimalism, for example, two buttons on Fisher F75, four buttons on Makro Racer 2. On the Golden Mask 5+ metal detector we see 9 buttons! And each button has its own purpose. The simplest and most understandable — turning on, you just need to press and hold the ON OFF button for a few seconds.
A small graphic splash screen will appear — ; image of the world (continents on the map, it’s strange that Bulgaria is not in first place and not in the center).
Then the famous golden mask and the inscription ~ will appear 60~strong>Golden Mask. An interesting idea; there are few devices on which the manufacturer comes up with an original and memorable screensaver. But this is not why we value metal detectors, but for their search qualities. 😉
What information does the screen give us? Shows almost all the current settings of the metal detector — selected frequency (Golden Mask 5+ can operate at two frequencies: 8 kHz and 18 kHz), ground balance, threshold level, gain, battery charge and most importantly — current discrimination settings and VDI indicator.
In the 21st century, I can no longer imagine a metal detector without the ability to adjust the volume. Metal detector without volume — last century! There is no point in marking your location in a field or forest; you must work quietly. In Golden Mask 5+, this is done by a button with a picture of a speaker and sound waves.
Select any setting by pressing the ENTER and + or – buttons. Very simple and practical.
Simply press plus or minus and set the desired us volume. At volume 0, the device becomes the quietest, but the volume does not disappear! Interesting feature.
Frequency selection occurs by pressing the upper left button , which shows a coil with signal waves and a small icon on top. What kind of icon is this, can you enlighten me? As I wrote above — the device has two frequencies, which means we can choose between 8 kHz (good for digging for war and antiquity) or 18 kHz (good for metal-plastics, various small items and searching on the beach).
Discrimination settings. Selected by DISC MODE/DISC LEVEL button. It’s also quite simple, all you have to do is try it out and figure out these settings in the field.
The interface is the same in all cases and not much different from other settings. Same values, numbers and choices. In most cases, this is the most user-friendly option.
Ground balance can be set automatically or manually. The choice is made by pressing the button at the bottom left — GB (Ground Balance).
Selection of basic settings appears when you press the PWR button (Power?) top right. Here we can adjust the Gain, Threshold and PowerBox parameters — this is actually why Golden Mask 5 was improved.
Actually, the Power Box setup itself. A high setting of this option increases the depth by another 30%, a kind of «Turbo» setting, as the manufacturer says about it.
