Unlucky season (Competitive story of a digger!)

My story is not connected with interesting finds, but no less fascinating and interesting.

The story will be about the mysticism associated with one device. The fact is that my passion is searching for ancient coins. In January 2016, while wandering around the World Wide Web, I came across an advertisement for the sale of MD — metal detector. I’ve been wanting to buy such a device for a long time, but I didn’t have enough finances, but here is such a gift – and at an affordable price. The device was original and with documents, and besides, it was little used. After receiving the device at the post office, I thoroughly examined it: it was indeed in decent condition. Now all that was left was to wait for spring, and then hit the road in search of adventure.

Surely everyone is familiar with the state when you are very much looking forward to something… So, while waiting for spring, I could not sit still, every day I looked at the weather forecast for the week ahead. And I rejoiced at the warm sun, melting snow and babbling streams and the ever-closer opportunity to go on a trip.

I decided to open the new season in a new place and with a new device.

The first departure took place on April 29. There was a long way to go, and even off-road. Having left early in the morning, I planned to arrive at the place by 10 o’clock in the morning, but my plans were not destined to come true. There was snow in small forests and hollows, it was actively melting, forming small streams, which, in turn, merged into huge puddles and invisible swamps. I walked into one of these traps. I tried everything I could, but nothing worked. Nature itself took me captive.

Evening was quickly approaching, I was already desperate to achieve anything and set off straight along the road on foot. According to my calculations, there should be a village 15 km from the place where I was. Having walked about two kilometers, two hundred meters ahead of me I saw a UAZ car (popularly nicknamed the loaf), which was moving chaotically through the fields. My joy manifested itself very actively: I shouted loudly and waved in his direction. This caught the driver’s attention. After I told him about my trouble, he was extremely surprised that I was trying to overcome this section of the road in such a car (I’ll tell you a secret that it was a VAZ-2106). The driver turned out to be such a kind person that he didn’t take any money, and even escorted me to the asphalt road. Thus ended my first foray.

Having barely recovered from this trip, I decided to explore a new place. I arrived at the tract around lunchtime. The sun was shining, tractors were walking in the fields, grain crops were being sown. Having driven the car closer to the river, so as not to attract attention, he got down to business. There were many MD signals, all different, but there were very few coin signals among them. And the tract was strange: there were only pits around, like pits.

Having walked for a little over an hour, I had just sat down to rest on a lonely stone when a car appeared on the horizon, approaching at high speed, despite the holes and potholes, only leaving clouds of dust behind. Having approached me as close as possible, the LEXUS 570 executive class appeared before me in all its glory. There were two people sitting in the car, neatly dressed, in jackets and ties. And I’m in front of them, covered in dust with a shovel and MD at the ready. One of them, as it turned out later, the director of the state farm, rudely asked me: “H… what are you doing here? You’re digging for my gold?” I won’t retell the whole dialogue, he basically talked about how they’ll put me in prison, that’s all I was trying to find out where my car is parked. Somehow I got rid of him, but I still didn’t understand what kind of gold he was talking about. Naturally, I quickly left that place.

But I didn’t want to leave just like that, curiosity took over. After driving a little, I came across a herd of cows, which was guarded by a shepherd. Having approached him, I decided to find out what kind of guy drives such a car. So he told me that he was the director of the state farm, a bad man, in the shepherd’s opinion, because he had bought up all the land in the area and was paying the workers pennies. It turns out that in the place where I happened to visit, there really were gold mines in the 19th century.

My adventures did not end there. A little later, I decided to go on a short trip on a Japanese scooter, naturally taking the detector with me. Having plotted a route with a distance of just over 400 km, I collected food for 7 days, refueled my scooter and hit the road. I laid out the route in such a way that I had to return home along a completely different road in order to explore as many abandoned settlements as possible. The finds were pleasing with their diversity, everything turned out great. At night, of course, it was a little scary, but I successfully dealt with it. About halfway along the road, the navigator broke down, and I would have turned back home, but I decided to finish what I started.

Of course, I got really lost, lost my bearings, wandered for a long time until I burned out all the gas. I had to push my bike so I couldn’t throw it away. He pushed long and hard. Nature tested my strength again. The wind was blowing all the time, and no matter how I tried to roll down the hill, the wind slowed down my descent.

After some time, clouds rolled in. The sun was shining all around and it was clear, but above me it was as if a watering can had overturned – it started to rain, and even with hail. My strength was leaving me, I was psychologically depressed. But it was necessary to go forward, not to stay on the road…

I finally found where to refuel my scooter. Luckily for me, I got out onto the asphalt road and stopped the car, they gave me gasoline, indicating the way to the house and the nearest gas station. When I arrived home, I couldn’t even wash myself or eat – I just fell and fell asleep. The last trip broke me. I even decided to give up my hobby, although I have been interested in this activity since 2009, and nothing like this has ever happened.

I didn’t describe all the trips, of course, there was an unpleasant meeting with the police, and how I punctured a tire 3 times in one trip, and much more. The strange thing is that all this happened in one year, after purchasing a used metal detector.

You will probably say that these are all my fantasies. To be honest, if everything I told you had happened to someone else, I would have thought so myself. But one day my wife decided to go to a fortune teller. She immediately said that her husband should sell the thing with which they look for coins, because… it brings bad luck. According to the fortune teller, the former owner of the MD performed magical rituals over the device. Probably with the aim of conspiring him to successfully search for finds.

MD was sold only after 2 months – no one wanted to buy. It seems that the price is low, and the device is from a well-known company…

I myself am not superstitious, but I learned from bitter experience that when we buy used things, we take on the energy of the former owner along with them. And not always positive.

Without even thinking, I decided to buy a new MD already in the store, and the 2017 season passed for me without incident and with interesting finds.
