When the price of a small coin is a million (super find with photo+)

At first glance, the most ordinary coin. About 350 years ago, you could have a great dinner at a tavern, drink good ale, but nothing more. Now, subject to successful bidding at auction, you can buy an entire farm for this coin.

This story happened in 2014. The name of the lucky digger is John Stoner. Near the village of King’s Clipstone in Nottinghamshire, England, he found a rare 17th-century silver coin minted in New England, North America.

The amazing coin was discovered, as usual, in an ordinary plowed field. According to the treasure hunter, the coin lay at a depth of approximately 12 cm, the signal was unstable. The statement is beyond any doubt if you look at similar silver coins. They are quite small and extremely thin. So, comrades, you need to dig for all the signals in the ancient fields!

Not being an expert in the field of numismatics, digger John did not initially have any illusions about the uniqueness of the coin case. To identify the find, he posted a photo in his club’s Facebook group. And then the comments started pouring in. People wrote: «Comrade, you won the lottery!»

The next day, it was decided to show the coin alive to a good specialist, who was shocked! Needless to say, the condition of this rare coin is perfect! Not the slightest trace of circulation, no abrasions on the obverse or reverse. In short, the jackpot was hit entirely.

On the obverse legend it reads NEW ENGLAND («New England»). Roman «III» means a denomination of three pennies. However, with the year 1652, things were not so simple. This type of coin with the year «1652» and oak in the center of the reverse was minted in different years between 1653 and 1682. The exact year of minting is impossible to find out.

I don’t know exactly how much the coin sold for at auction, but the forecasts were promising. One of the American auctions valued the coin at $1,700,000.

Good luck, comrades! I wish everyone to hit the jackpot one day!
