XP MI-6 wireless pinpointer system and Garrett PRO Pointer AT Z-Lynk: which is better? (Expertise)

0 50

Wireless pinpointers are starting to make their way into the world of pinpointers. Or rather, pinpointers with a wireless connection to headphones from your metal detector. Currently, this system is supported by XP MI-6 and Garrett PRO Pointer AT Z-Lynk. Other manufacturers are on the way, it is possible that Minelab, Chinese Quest, maybe Fisher/Teknetics are working on something similar? But it is known for sure that such a system was almost released by Nokta-Makro. But the post is not about that, rather about summarizing the experience of using wireless pins of the two systems. Yes, they are different, but you still don’t understand?

Wireless system in XP MI-6

Since this was the first time I used a wireless pinpointer, the MI-6 model, let’s start with it.

XP MI-6 wireless pinpointer system and Garrett PRO Pointer AT Z-Lynk: which is better? (Expertise)

When you use the XP MI-6 pinpointer, when you turn on the pinpointer, your metal detector (XP Deus) goes into pinpointer mode. With headphones, you can’t hear your metal detector at all, but on the detector screen you see a graphic indicator of the pinpointer’s approach to the target – let’s call it the strength of the signal from the target.

What are the pros and cons of this system?

Pros:

  • We do not hear the operation of the detector and the interference from it.
  • We hear the sound of a pinpointer and nothing prevents us from concentrating on digging up the find.
  • A graphic indicator on the screen and the sound of the pinpointer coming from Deus help replace wireless headphones.
  • There are pinpointer settings on the metal detector screen.

Minuses:

  • When you need to ring a target in a hole, you will have to turn off the pinpointer and wait for the detector to start working.
  • Works only with the XP Deus metal detector and XP headphones.

Wireless system in Garrett PRO Pointer AT Z-Lynk

With the Garrett system everything is a little different.

The Garrett pinpointer can be connected to Garrett MS-3 wireless headphones or a Z-Lynk wireless receiver to which your own headphones of any model are connected. Also, when you turn on the pinpointer, you continue to hear the metal detector. That is, we hear the signal simultaneously from the pinpointer and the metal detector. What are the pros and cons of this system?

Pros:

  • We don’t need to turn off the pinpointer to re-ring the hole or sift the soil on the dump. This saves time.
  • Works with any metal detector and any headphones with the Z-Lynk module.

Minuses:

  • We can hear noise from the metal detector that occurs when the pinpointer is operating.

Conclusion

Naturally, this is just my observation and my experience, but I’m interested to know what each of you thinks – which system is more convenient? As far as I know, the Nokta-Makro company has made a wireless connection like MI-6 in the new Scuba Pointer (2 in 1) pinpointer, i.e. when you turn on the pinpointer, the metal detector turns off and you can’t hear it.

Which system is better and more convenient for you?
