Last week, a small, seemingly everyday piece of news appeared in the news feed of the website of the Institute of Archeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences. “Archaeological pearls of 2021: treasures from Suzdal and Old Ryazan” If anyone has a desire, you can follow the link to the original source. Well, I’ll tell you briefly.

The treasure from the Suzdal Opolye is of little interest to us, so let’s immediately move on to the second news about the treasure from the settlement of Old Ryazan.

Quote from the text “In the summer of 2021 , a treasure of jewelry and cash ingots made of white metal, found near the village of Isady, 4 km east of the settlement, was transferred to the Staraya Ryazan expedition of the Institute of Archives of the Russian Academy of Sciences and RIAMZ, conducting research at the site of Old Ryazan and its surrounding area. The treasure was hidden in the forest on the slope of a damp ravine cape, the right tributary of the small Studenets stream.”

So, from the first time, I did not immediately understand that the treasure was found not by archaeologists, but by a certain citizen. He found the treasure, extracted it, then informed the archaeologists, handed over the treasure and pointed to the location of discovery. At the same time, this citizen wanted to remain anonymous. That is, incognito. Anonymous and hidden like Zorro.

And, here, just one question. Who is this hero??? I am convinced that the situation definitely has no analogues in modern Russia.

At the same time, a news report on regional TV came out about this event, where they revealed a little information about the mysterious donor of the treasures. They said that this was a local summer resident and he found the treasure by accident.

I don’t know what kind of map they showed in the news, but everywhere they write that the location of the discovery of the treasure is kept secret)))

I wrote about why in Russia it is legally impossible to hand over found treasure in one of my previous posts.

Why don't citizens in Russia hand over treasures? (real examples + photos and facts)

In fact, this example once again demonstrates the acute problem of treasure hunting in Russia. Because the same treasure hunter who voluntarily handed over the treasure, according to existing legal norms, can receive a criminal charge and an impressive fine.

We would like to remind you that in December last year, the Starozhilovsky District Court of the Ryazan Region sentenced two residents of the Moscow Region in a criminal case. Citizens found a treasure of Kufic dirhams and did not hand it over to the state. For which they received confiscation of the treasure and a fine of half a million rubles. Here is a note on this topic.

Bloggers found treasure and will now pay a fine of half a million rubles

In the meantime. As the Ministry of Culture of Estonia said, in 2020, licensed treasure hunters announced the discovery of more than fifty treasures. And I also once wrote about the fact that in 2019 in Britain licensed treasure hunters announced the discovery of 1,180 treasures. Well. And we have an event!!! The first treasure to be voluntarily donated in 30 years of the history of new Russia. And why so?

True, there is information that in May a certain resident of Vladivostok handed over a treasure of gold coins to the police for examination. But this information needs to be verified.
