Teknetics T2+. Last year the manufacturer released this new product, but what’s new about it? There are many variations of the famous and legendary metal detector, and how do they all differ? To put it simply, the differences are in the firmware.
Fortunately, many metal detectors can now be updated via your computer, but the time of those devices where the firmware is updated only by the manufacturer has not yet passed. So, what's new in Teknetics T2 plus and how does it differ from the rest?

The first and most noticeable difference between Teknetics T2+ and other models is its kit.
This model comes with very good equipment, which, by the way, allows you to significantly save on the purchase.

Sometimes they write/say that Teknetics metal detectors come without additional seals for the rod and coil ears; the photo above shows that this is not true.
The case is already mine. The logo of the new model is visible on the armrest – T2+. Here, under the armrest, there is a battery compartment; the device runs on 4 AA batteries. I use batteries – it's more profitable and better.
Similarly, on the front control panel of the metal detector there is the inscription “Teknetics T2+”. As you can see, controlling the metal detector is very simple – just one potentiometer and a button!
And, like all other Teknetics T2 models, the trigger is in its place. A very convenient thing, it’s already a little difficult for me to work with metal detectors that don’t have such a trigger. Let go of yourself – you adjust from the ground, press yourself – turn on the pinpoint mode for precise localization of the target. Very simple, practical and convenient!
At a good price this is a great kit. A new pinpointer usually costs $120, and buying the kit itself is much cheaper than buying Teknetics T2 and pinpointer + headphones separately.
Perhaps this is the simplest professional metal detector and easy to set up. Yes, it doesn’t remember the settings, but it only takes me a couple of seconds to set them. Control is very easy and fast. There are two main modes to choose from – all metals and discriminant. All. Do not need anything else. We set the sensitivity to the desired level, do the ground balance and go digging. There are no secrets or tricks here – we hear the signal and immediately dig.
For example, I often used the all metals mode. It is sensitive to small targets, but also reacts to hot stones. Hot rocks are easy to recognize, they have a high VDI, but the sound from the target is muffled and weak, not real. Do not confuse this with a coin signal. Also in the “all metals” mode we set the threshold tone level, the main thing is not to overdo it and not to set the thrash level too high or too low. I usually searched at levels 0/+1.
In Discrimination mode, the threshold tone is not available, but tone settings are available. A distinctive feature of the T2+ model is that now there is “BOOST MODE” in the tone settings. This is a very interesting mode. The manufacturer claims that it should be used in places where there is tall grass, supposedly it then has better depth, but I also used this mode in normal search, because in this mode the sensitivity to small targets increases, especially if they lie deeper than usual. Yes, with BOOST MODE I was able to find small coins and jewelry in places where I had dug before and not found them.
Experience of using and secrets of a cop with Teknetics T2+
Yes, the simplicity of this metal detector is impressive. There are no complex settings in it, there is nothing that would prevent you from making a mistake in the settings and using it incorrectly. Turn it on at full volume, select the mode you need, set the sensitivity to maximum in your digging conditions, then do the ground balance and go ahead – search!
The metal detector is very sensitive to all targets and sees them deeply, and this is the most important thing. Can be equipped with additional coils both from the manufacturer and from third-party coil manufacturers, for example – NEL or CORS, or Karma.
He brings his finds. For example, in the photo above, 20 kopecks, 1868, 500 silver. It was found in a broken place, even the owner of the land himself was a digger and said that he had already dug up everything in the area, but we know that. 🙂 There are no fully explored places.
BOOST MODE adds depth for smaller targets such as medieval silver and antique small coins and jewelry. The mode is very sensitive and in places with poor soil or even if there is a mobile phone nearby it can cause additional interference, so you need to use it carefully.
Another copper coin from the late 19th century was found in a knocked-out place. Although the find is very ordinary, it is also pleasant.
If in some places it is impossible to use BOOST MODE, then I switched to 3 tone mode. 3 tones is the most standard and common mode for working with this metal detector. It perfectly separates ferrous targets from targets with higher conductivity. Silver and copper are very conductive metals and there is a third tone for them, this helps to hear these targets better.
Yes, another important point about discrimination. In discrimination mode, I set the discrimination level to 0 because I like to hear all the metals and control the entire digging process. If you completely cut out targets from ferrous metal, you can also miss interesting targets, because gold sometimes ends up in the ferrous metal sector and it is better to dig for such targets on the beach, then there will be more finds and the digging will be more productive.
Another common find is 1 kopeck in silver from 1842. Found in a field that search engines have been exploring for decades. I wonder how someone could have missed such a simple target in the ground. An interesting thing is that in the place where this coin was found, there was a lot of aluminum debris, various small pieces and remains of wire and metal. T2+ perfectly separated these targets in the ground and I periodically dug up this garbage so as not to miss good targets, and among this garbage I also picked up an ancient coin, which is in the photo above. Many search engines avoid littered places and thereby deprive themselves of interesting finds. T2+ has a good speed of target separation; the manufacturer has already set a balance in the device between the best depth and target separation, which allows you to work on garbage. Interestingly, in this littered area I worked with a 13″ coil from the manufacturer Karma and, despite the large size of the coil, I found this coin.
With a small coil it is convenient to search in places that are densely littered. The find in the photo above is a Swedish 1/4 Åre from 1666, such an ancient coin was found at the site of the construction of a bicycle path! There was a lot of debris there, and since I don’t have a sniper rifle, I used a standard 11″ DD coil. And I found this coin! I imagine what could be found in this place with a sniper coil, but the path is already paved and I no longer have the opportunity to search there.
The Teknetics Tek-Point pinpointer, which came complete with the metal detector, also helped me in all my searches. Perhaps you couldn’t find better partners, Tek-Point is now one of the best pinpointers on the market and at a fairly good price, and it’s also pulsed, which makes it an excellent pinpointer for digging in places with difficult ground and on the salty beach!
Another little trick for experienced users: if you set the ground balance manually, I advise you to raise it a little, this gives additional depth of around +5% for any purpose. But don’t overdo it, because you need to inflate it by about 2-3 points, no more!
As I said above, there is nothing complicated about Teknetics T2+, which means this metal detector can be recommended to beginners as a first metal detector. It will definitely bring good finds and mastering it will be as easy as shelling pears!
