What do you eat on the mine?
Quite a difficult but important topic! What do you eat during the coping and main pastime?
There are many options, let's go in order:
- Dry rations.
They are exactly what is shown in the photo, and in different countries and variants.
They have their pros and cons. On the plus side, it can be enough for several days of hiking, many dry rations have everything you need to heat up and cook food, sometimes there are three dishes (breakfast, lunch, dinner), as well as drinks – coffee, tea and even various tonic drinks and fruit drinks . Some packed lunches, for example the French one, also have desserts! And most importantly – biscuits, where would we be without them?
The downside is the price, sometimes it costs the same as a normal lunch in a restaurant. Another minus is that many dry rations that are on sale have a short shelf life. Depends on the ration, of course, but often there are rations with a month or three left; if you leave them in the car for six months, they’ll be long past their expiration date.
Of the delicious rations, I recommend the rations of the USA and, especially, France.
- Freeze-dried food.
Almost like dry rations, but exclusively for civilian production and purpose. They are sold in various stores; in our country, for example, such food is sold in hunting and weapons stores, various outdoor stores and for fishermen. The principle is simple – a small package with freeze-dried powder inside, the food is prepared directly on the go, the cooking process may vary, but to prepare most dishes it is enough to pour the required amount of water into the package and wait the required time. Requires heating.
On the plus side, it tastes better than packed lunches, at least it tastes like real food.
The downside is that it takes a long time to cook, sometimes 20-30 minutes until fully cooked. Price – sometimes it costs the same as a regular dry ration for three meals a day.
- Homemade food or take-away food.
I have friends who take a barbecue and kebabs with them to every field trip. Or sausages are fried and eaten with vegetables and bread. There is nothing tastier and more nutritious than such a snack.
And there are many more advantages here than all the others. After all, there is no need to hide and think that we will now be caught by saboteurs or teams to destroy sabotage groups, therefore, making a kebab or grill on the pit is a sacred thing! That's why I'm for the grill!
What do you eat on the mine, friends?
