Garrett, Minelab and… basins! (battle of competitors, facts+)

The earth is full of rumors, especially about detector manufacturers. I usually don’t like to post and shout about unverified news, a la «Fisher will release a new detector in August, Minelab will also come with a new model in the same month», but it’s September and, naturally, rumors turned out to be rumors. On my blog we only contain verified information or rumors from reliable sources, and not «OBS — one grandmother said».

All copars know Garrett and Minelab. Two giants in the world of metal detectors, but they not only produce new detectors and pinpointers, but also try to push each other in terms of accessories. Especially those unusual ones that the story will talk about today, namely about «basins» to search for gold in reservoirs! Yes, not only around metal detectors there is a fight for the wallets of diggers around the world, basins are also doing their bit!

Once upon a time, and judging by the patent — On the 31st of July 1979, when the USSR was in our yard and no one cared about Grandfather Garrett and even Asek did not exist, Garrett received a patent for a «basin» a bit of an unusual shape. That was a long time ago. The screenshot of the basin itself is from the 1979 patent:

(NB!) Who cares — The link to the patent opens when you click on the picture with the basin. 🙂

The idea is quite simple — The basin is made of a new and lightweight material, plastic, and the edge of the basin has a stepped shape so that small particles of gold do not run away along with the water from the basin. Such a simple attempt to hold onto gold.

Minelab, which is located in Australia and where gold mining is very common, apparently waited a long time for the patent to expire and… I made my new basin! What — Garrett’s patent came out, and we need to take a share of the basin market. What is the difference between the basins from Garrett and MineLab? There is no frequency, the weight seems to be the same, the answer is banal to the point of indecentness:

Set of basins from Garrett:

And a new set of basins from Minelab, which was announced last year, and this month (September 2016) began to go on sale in gold-bearing countries:

We take the color blue, and all gold-digging devices from Minelab are usually in blue colors and tones, remove one basin size as unnecessary, make one size somewhere between two basins from Garrett and we have a completely finished product. A clever move for the purses of gold diggers!

They even released a small video tutorial on how to look for gold with these basins. In English, of course, but the whole process is clearly shown. I have never seen how gold is washed, except occasionally in films about the Wild West; who remembers, sometimes such scenes came across.

Yes, Garrett once claimed that their green basins are the best and such a step system is unique, but now the monopoly is over and Minelab insists that blue is better. War of flowers, no less! In fact, Garrett came out this year with new ACE series detectors, what will Minelab do? In the field of gold prospecting and basins, they responded by painting this basin blue, but what will happen to the detectors? There are rumors about the release of new ones Minelab detectors by the next mining season; in the winter of 2017 I feel there will be a new set of devices from Minelab. Let’s see if they can or will stay with the repainted basins, hahaha!

Comrades, and if you have a drain or a bike, something that will be interesting to other comrades — send it, we’ll publish it!
